ĐAI NAM QUAC AM TU VI (Great Vietnam National Language’s Dictionary) the work that you are holding was compiled and published 123 years ago by Mr. Huinh Tinh Cua (1830 - 1908) – a cultural man and linguist who made a brilliant contributions for the research, development and the diffusion of Vietnam national written language in the very first stage in Vietnam South. The Dictionary is the first Vietnamese monolingual one of Vietnam and is a valuable reference for those who are interested in researching and understanding the Vietnamese language, especially the ancient Vietnamese and the Southern dialect, but assuming that without it, we will find it hard to find nay book or other materials to look up. The Dictionary was published by the Hue Quang Library (that belonged to Hue Quang Sino-Nom Translation Center) in exact content of the first edition of the years of 1895 – 1896 in order to preserve the historical document. Besides, in the Dictionary there are a comprehensive treatise written by the researcher Tran Van Chanh to write a general essay on “Huynh Tinh Cua and Đai Nam quac am tu vi” and other appendixes. In this edition, except the 800 conventional copies for large readership, there are also 200 special copies that are wrapped in handmade hard covers (ribbed veil, high quality simily wrapped) by artisan Nguyen Duc Khuynh with the wood seals of Hue Quang Library and of artisan Nguyen Duc Khuynh himself. The first 30 copies that numbered from 1 to 30 dedicated to the Hue Quang Library and its friends. The copies numbered from 31 to 200 are reserved for booklovers.
