This book relate memories of a senior bureaucrat born to a rural peasant family and moved up along with his academic and professional career progressively, sometimes unintentionally, but steadily. Some of the major milestones in his life were exceptionally unusual. Thosapala Hewage, born as a farmer’s son in Kalawana with ten children in the family, had to face many a hardship not only in education but also in day to day life. He walked to school barefoot. However, he never gave up because he believed in hard work and commitment. Thanks to the free education system in the country, he was able to enter the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya for his undergraduate studies.
