Between 1981 and 1995 a top-secret chemical and biological warfare programme titled Project Coast was established and maintained in apartheid South Africa. The activities of Project Coast were treated as emblematic of the perversities of a former time - one that should never be repeated.Dis-eases of Secrecy investigates possibilities for understanding ourselves and the world through examining how Project Coast has been remembered and forgotten in African politics as well as in international diplomacy. Through their involvement in investigations over twenty years, the authors examine the continuing relevance of silences, impunities and stories surrounding Project Coast for political accountability today.
