This is a historical novel based on the true story of the talented and tragic life of Nguyen Trai (1380-1442) - a national hero and a cultural celebrity of the world. He was a prominent politician and military official, who actively participated in the Lam Son Uprising against the Ming invasion of Dai Viet. He's also a famous poet in Vietnamese history. Nearly 600 years ago, when the war against foreign countries ended, the internal struggle within the Le Dynasty began. In that crisis, Nguyen Trai became the victim of the most brutal and tragic atrocities in the history of Vietnam, the tragedy of a great man. The whole story was told within 27 days from the birth of Prince Le Tu Thanh (later Le Thanh Tong King) until the day when Nguyen Trai and his wife, scholar Nguyen Thi Lo and their whole family were beheaded. This novel is not only the story of an individual Nguyen Trai, it is also a story of intellectuals in relation to power, to the nation, with the right and ideals that they pursue.
