This book is a product of the long-term collection process over the past 3 decades, in order to introduce the true images of wooden grave-house statues, mainly of two ethnic group, the Gia Rai and the Ba Na, in Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces. Nowadays, goinf around the villages in the Central Highlands, we no longer have the oppotunity to admire the artistic works of wooden statues as before because they have been modernized by cement and corrugated-iron roof. Most of the photographs in this book were taken from 1986, 1988 and many years after that. From nearly 1,000 photographs taken of wooden statues, grave-houses, grave-living festivals and daily-life events related to this cultural phenomenon; only over 300 photos are selected for publication to store and disseminate the value of this folklore art.
