'Based on historical sources, the most important is the archives collected from the Archives nationalesd'Outre-mer (ANOM) in Aix-en-Provence, France, the book presents the process of formation and establishment of the economy and structure of colonial social class in Vietnam from the middle of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth century under the influence of the invasion and colonization of the French. The author has analyzed and determined the position and the interrelated relationship of elements and parts that are remnants of feudalism and newly emerging elements and parts of colonial Vietnam. From there, the author made objective judgments and assessments about the impact and consequences of French investment and capitalization policies on Vietnam's economy and society before and after 1945.
