Sultan Abdul Hamid II, who famously said, "Every picture is an idea," commissioned photographs from across the Ottoman territories. Around 1,300 photographs of Palestinian cities from the Yıldız Photo Albums, 400 from the Library of Congress in the United States, and approximately 200 from the New York Public Library were meticulously studied. For this comprehensive portrayal of the Palestine region, which transcends modern borders, 293 photographs—many of which have never been published before—were carefully selected for their expressive power. The book, Palestine During the Reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, is organized according to the administrative divisions of the early 1900s: Jerusalem, Nablus, and Acre. This work brings together the geography of Palestine as a whole for the first time in a single book. (Photography/History)
