Equity within the health sector is a key policy objective for practically all health systems around the world. This is based on consistent evidence that the socio-economically disadvantaged carry a heavier burden of ill-health and are least able to afford health care. The primary health care approach to health care delivery is considered to be the best approach for effectively addressing the major health needs of communities and in promoting equity within the health system.
