The book 'State, Insecurity and the African Condition: Impediments and Optimism Reconsidered' is a festschrift for the renowned Sociologist and Criminologist, Professor Theophilus Omololu Soyombo @ 60. In this collection of essays, the contributors x-ray the challenges of insecurity to the state and people in Africa. Particularly, search light was beamed on the rampaging Boko Haram insurgents, the Islamic State in the West Africa Province (ISWAP), Al-Shabaab in East Africa, banditry in Nigeria's North West, North Central and North East, illicit arms proliferation, targeting of the adherents of a different faith, targeting of state institutions and non-state actors; and the obvious threat of the violence unleashed to the corporate existence of targeted African states. Other subjects like counter- insurgency techniques, history of terrorism, the emergence of political Islam, remediation forensic science, human displacement and family dislocation, sustenance of insurgent groups, and the political economy of targeted states were also discussed.
