When Toy was pursuing his studies (1934-1954), Naga people were behind others, shut out from the world in stagnancy and darkness. This did not deter Lanu Toy's passion. He worked hard to be at par with others, enabling him to even travel to Tokyo, Japan in 1961. The first hydro electric project in Northeast India, the Umtru Hydro Electric Project was commissioned in 1958 under his leadership, and he also began process for the Doyang Hydro Electric Project in Nagaland in 1990. This brought electricity to many regions in Northeast India and opened the doors for development. As a student, there were instances when he was confronted by struggles and heartbreaks, and as a Government servant he encountered immense challenges. each experience prepared and shaped him to live a life of victory.
