Product Description

This book brings out perspectives from powerful countries (India, China, U.S.A., EU, UN) and Bangladesh on various important issues of bilateral cooperation. It has nine chapters on major bilateral issues and domestic politics prevailing at that time. It argues that the domestic politics in Bangladesh negatively affect major powers and international communities. Accordingly, the main focus of this book is to understand the nature of foreign relations of Bangladesh which had involvement in its domestic affairs or internal politics and how foreign countries exerted pressure on Bangladesh to ensure good governance, election reforms, and for undertaking other necessary measures during 2006-2008 Caretaker Governments (CTG). In addition, this also made an attempt to explore the role played by the U.S.A., India along with other western countries including Tuesday Club during that period of military-backed caretaker government. Furthermore, the book also critically examines the impact of domestic events and internal politics on decision-making relating to foreign policy. This unique caretaker government’s pattern of foreign relations was not studied. Since not a single has yet been conducted on this issue therefore it is necessary to find out the reasons how foreign relations of Bangladesh worked during 2006-2008.
