Yunnan Railway Line is a compilation of Postcards of the line from the harbor Haiphong to Laokay at the border with Yunnan and the second part from Laokay to the final destination in Kunming. A map illustrates the two possible trasses. The second part illustrates the work in photos taken from the book: Le Chemin de Fer du Yunnan, published in 1910 after the project was finished. It also includes drawings of the locomotives and the rolling stock of passenger and freight cars. This compilation of old postcards and photos brings to live the great achievement of French engineers in the early 1900. After Francis Garnier's expedition on land to try to find a way to Yunnan via the Mekong River showed the Mekong was not a feasible transport route to trade with Yunnan the railway project was pursued. It can be regarded as an early attempt to create a modern silk route. It actually failed as it was to narrow a concept till the Chinese started the comprehensive Road and Belt Project to connect China with Europe.
