In the United States of America, fraternities are an integral part in the university system. Membership in the fraternities is not secret. The groups are registered with and recognized as fraternities by the school.... the fraternities are so important in the minds of the students that a student's primary identification is with the fraternity, while in Nigeria the fraternities are branded and regarded as secret cults. This book contains an extensive research on the activities of the different secret cults and fraternities that exist in the Nigerian Universities in an analytical matter. It examines how, in every society, delinquent subculture (a culture within a larger culture) is known to exist and why it has been characterized as having an inverse value system to that of conventional system. Young people, who have experienced culture conflict or status frustration, strive to become "big shots" by emulating successful hoodlums and they behave contrary to conventional norms because they must sustain their delinquent subcultures. Such young people who grow up in an area where there is an opportunity for criminal cultures, gang up into a delinquent group to commit acts of atrocities, including victims or members of rival gangs.
