This paper explores the relationship between university education and economic growth, focusing on why Nigeria, despite its early potential, has lagged its peers. At independence, Nigeria's economic prospects were on par with those of China, South Korea, and Malaysia. However, while these nations have achieved rapid growth, Nigeria's progress has stagnated. A key factor examined in this study is the quality of university education.
