Transhumance and international migration are interfacing themes in the current discourses and narratives of sub-Saharan Africa’s development and predicament. While they drive economic progress and development in many ways, they currently underpin some of the very violent conflicts, violent criminality, economic crimes, terrorism, humanitarian crises and xenophobic attacks that the region has experienced in the last few decades. They are products of poor governance systems, poor and unsustainable development management and outcomes, and weak security and conflict resolution architecture in sub-Sahara Africa, and generate immense challenges for governance, peace and sustainable development.
