When the 12-meter-long aluminium charter boat DiveCat sank while on the way home from a trip to Auckland’s Great Barrier Island, many people thought that was the end of her. With her exact position uncertain and in at least 43 meters of water, both officials and salvage experts alike said it was too risky and too expensive to try and recover. She would likely stay there until she eventually crumbled away.
