A Collection of Original Documents, published by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP). History of the role of German and Austrian Navies in the Spanish-American War of 1898 and the Philippine Revolution of 1898, edited by two prominent German scholars who have both contributed to and studied the field of German-Philippine relations, Volker Schult and Karl-Heinz Wionzek. It contains original documents never before published from men who witnessed and experienced the war first-hand. These include commanders, a merchant, an imperial and royal physician, as well as documents containing perspectives on the war from military leaders of both the German and Austrian navies. On pp 14-23, the article “A secret and smart agent of the Prussion government? Cavite: The case of Jacobo Zobel Jr.” should be of special interest.
