Historically the Tooro Kingdom was founded by Omukama Kaboyo Olimi I who was the oldest son of the Omukama of Bunyoro, Nyamutukura Kyebambe III. He succeeded his father and in 1830 established an independent kingdom his own with the Muziizi River forming the border between the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom and the newly established Tooro Kingdom. In 1876 was absorbed into the Bunyouro-Kitara Kingdom before reasserting its independance in 1891. As with the kingdoms of Buganda, Busoga and Bunyoro, Under Milton Obote’s first Presidency (1966 – 1971), the Tooro Kingdom was abolished in 1967 and wasn’t reinstated until 1993.
