Basic Education in Nigeria, one of the E-9 Countries i.e nations with the highest number of illiterate populations has engaged the attention of education scholars, practitioners, professionals and administrators. Aspects pertaining to access, equity and quality predominated. This work addresses issues relating to pupils enrolment, attendance and completion; functionality and relevance of curriculum; classrooms, furniture, instructional materials and libraries; parents, communities and civil society; legislation, funding and management, etc. These papers were the author's contribution to basic education discourse between 1994-2003, when he served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) and the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Programme-two important national basic education agencies.
