Democracy in Nigeria has always been accompanied by uncertainty and fears for the safety of lives and property during campaigns, elections and even after governments have been sworn in. This prompted the Centre for Democratic Research and Training to come up with the idea of a conference on the major issues surrounding the electioneering process in Nigeria, especially as they relate to violence and infringements on the rights of individuals and groups.
