T. A. Bediako was a staff of GNAT from 1968 to 1983; from January 1977 to 1983, he was the General Secretary of the Association. During this period, his name became more or less synonymous with GNAT. Between 1984 and December 2003, Τ. Α. became an international teacher unionist and worked for four international Teachers' Organizations concerned with teachers and workers in pre-tertiary educational institutions in more or less overlapping time sequence; the first was as Secretary General of All Africa Teachers' Organization (AATO) 1984-2003, then as Africa Regional Representative of the World Confederation of Organizations of the Teaching Profession (WCOTP) 1985-December 1992, thirdly as Chief Regional Co-ordinator for Africa for Education International (EI) 1993-2003 and lastly as a founding member and later chairman of the Pan African Teachers Centre (1992 2004).
