1. Image of God. Image of God: Provocations of the Others analyzes the biblical texts of the image of God, which are found in the Book of Genesis and the Gospel of John, by interweaving the reading strategies of psychoanalytic, deconstructive, feminist, profeminist, and postcolonial perspectives. Through these reading strategies, Canceran attempts to deconstruct the power relations and hierarchies inscribed in the texts by opening spaces for the resignification of the image of God from subordinate Others such as women, colored men and colonized people who suffer from marginalization and exclusion in society. These readings endeavor to free the image of Gos from the entrapment or constraint of ideologies of sexism, racism and classism, and empower the Others in exploring their imaginations and affirming their identities so that they will gain their power to represent themselves in society.
