This book brings together four classical Urdu travel writings – three historical and one relatively modern – about the Hajj and the Hejaz in English translation. The book is a celebration of the spirit, presenting insights into the spiritual impulse which propels million of Muslim pilgrims to the Haraman, the two blessed sanctums of Islam. It is also a celebration of the translator’s physical relationship with the Hejaz which has now lasted almost46 years.
