In 2012, Cheryl Ann Fernando resigned from her job and left Kuala Lumpur to teach in Sungai Petani, Kedah. It felt idealistic and romantic and she truly believed that she would make a great teacher—until she stepped into a classroom and found reality to be far from what she imagined.
