Later, with the invention of machinery for the mass production of goods, they jettisoned slave trade and scrambled for Africa to get raw materials for their industries and other resources for developing their nations. Presently, there is an alarming increase in the number of people migrating to Europe from Africa and Asia as refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers.
