The Ramayana, more than two thousand years old, belongs to the most important epics in human culture. From India it spread out to Southeast Asia. As in many cultures it was also adopted in Cambodia, the kingdom of the Khmer, for more than a thousand years. It is called THE REAMKER. The legend of prince Rama, the incarnation of Lord VISNU, who came to earth to fight against the evil in the figure of demon king Ravanna who kidnapped Rama’s wife Sita. It became of highest importance also to the Khmer society. More than any other story The Reamker profoundly influenced arts and life of the Cambodian people: this photobook proofs magnificently the profound association between the Reamker and almost every type of performance in Cambodia.
