Land is at the centre of tribal identity and is also considered a cause of most ethnic conflicts in Northeast India. That justifies a study of the tribal land issue. The present publication based on one such study is an attempt to understand the traditional land management systems of six representative tribes of the region, the changes that have occurred among them, the processes that resulted in such changes and the consequent land alienation.
