China 1980. As part of his plan to transform China into a modern economic superpower, Premier Xiaoping establishes Special Economic zones along China’s coast to encourage foreign investment and trade. Among triad leaders, Uncle is the first to recognize the potential in Deng’s economic reforms and quickly takes steps to increase Fanling’s involvement in the textile industry of Shenzhen, directly across the border from Hong Kong. Meanwhile, as Uncle’s attention is focused on the growing trade with mainland China, a neighbouring triad gang, sensing opportunity, begins to move in on Fanling territory. With his resources stretched thin, Uncle must forge new alliances with dangerous partners to protect Fanling’s interests. And he’ll soon learn that while much has changed in China since his exile, old grievances die hard.
