The book is a historical treatise of Dr. Tran Ngoc Dung - lecturer and researcher of Hanoi National University of Education. In this research work, Tran Ngoc Dung mainly focuses on the relationship between the two countries Britain and Vietnam in the fields of trade, diplomacy, politics and military through analyzing the development process of a major trading representative at that time, the British East India Company, and became a strategic card to serve the government and the goal of expanding the territory of the British Empire. With rare and scattered Vietnamese documents, the author had to search and exploit the British archives and accordingly, he leaned towards the stance and perspective of the British, specifically the British East India Company in relation to Vietnam at this period. Notably, the work also provides many important documents on Vietnamese history, meticulous notes on Vietnam's internal problems during the feudal separation period.
