‘Edward Lankin Mansel was born in 1942 to a Japanese-Bidayuh mother and English father. He was educated in St. Thomas’s Anglican School, Kuching. He served for 35 years in the Research Branch of the Department of Agriculture Sarawak. Edward has a long list of experience with him, starting as a field assistant to several foreign field scientists in the Soil Survey and Tree Crops Agronomy Division since 1962. He retired as Senior Assistant Agricultural Officer (Research) in 1996 after serving in various sections within the Research Branch. In 1994 Edward was awarded the Sarawak Government Long Service Medal and Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji (PTT) by the Sarawak Government for his active involvement in Charity Organisations. He is Vice-Chairman of the Malaysian Leprosy Relief Association (Sarawak Branch) since 1992. After retirement, Edward became a free-lance tourist guide. He was appointed as one of the panel members of the Sarawak Tourist Guides’ Association by the Ministry of Tourism to develop a new syllabus for the training of tourist guides. In addition, he is a vocational training officer and a speaker for the Sarawak Tourist Guides’ Association’s Continuing Tourism Related Education (CTRE) programme.’
