This book is a full-length novel, together with Moment in Peking and Cranes in the Wind, it is called Lin Yutang Trilogy. Published in 1953, this novel mainly tells the love legend of two people from Xian—the reporter Li Fei and the famous lady Du Rouan who crossed the family line. The novel not only describes the cultural features and turbulent current situation of the ancient city of Xian in the 1930s, but also follows the experiences of the two protagonists, and spends a lot of time describing the vast customs of Western Xinjiang, as well as the ethnically mixed and constant struggles. The legendary story on the land, in the social background of Northwest China in the early 1930s, shows the conflict between good and evil, the contest between justice and injustice, and reveals the authors humanitarian feelings of equality and fraternity everywhere.
