The Story of the West Chamber is a drama created by Wang Shifu in the Yuan Dynasty. It tells the story of the scholar Zhang Sheng and the lady of Xiangguo Cui Yingying, with the help of the maid and matchmaker, breaking through the obstacles of Sun Feihu, Cui Mu, Zheng Heng and others, and finally getting married. This work puts forward the ideal of may all the sentient beings in the world become relatives, enthusiastically praises the love between Yingying and Zhang Sheng, and reflects the humanistic thought of young and middle-aged men and women in the feudal society who demanded their marriage independence and broke through the feudal code of ethics.
