The Hero Takes a Walk is a memoir of childhood and teenage and an essay on the Philippines in the sixties and seventies, an extraordinary evocation of a time and place and a re-examination of the culture and thought of the period. Robert Nery was born in the Philippines and has lived in Australia since 1974. He has made films and videos, including two feature documentaries, Black Nazarene and In 1966 The Beatles Came to Manila.
