This is an unusual book, written in memory of late Shri P R Mishra from Jharkhand, a crusader on environmental protection, sustainable land and water management, and welfare of the poor. A recipient of Padmashree award in 2000, Rajiv Gandhi Parti Bhoomi Award in 1997, Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra Award in 1987 and many more, Shri P R Mishra dedicated his entire life on people led rural development, inventing a mission of Chakriya Vikas. His single motto was to tell the governments that ‘Land belongs to the people. Mother earth enables humans only to use it; government is only an enabler or promoter of people led development. Chakriya Vikas Pranali is the only mantra that can deliver this.’ As a recollection since his departure in 2001, this book provides glimpses of his thoughts, the theoretical foundations, and achievements in the direction of thoughts promoted by him during 1970 to 2010. It is hoped that, in turn these writings will motivate governments and NGOs to return to Chakriya Vikas Pranali (Cyclic System of Development) as a long run avenue for land and water sustainability.
