The book is an attempt to portray the cultural and social history of the people of the town known as Illah, in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State of Nigeria. It traces the history of the town right from its very foundations and diverse origins from Omorka and the subsequent arrival of other groups of settlers from different backgrounds which came to join the first founders, thus making Illah a melting pot of people from diverse backgrounds: Igbo, Igala and Benin stocks. It also highlights the prominent areas of the town's traditions and culture from ancient times to the modern. Furthermore, the book captures the town in contemporary times by x-raying the social development efforts of the people through mainly self-efforts led by the IDUN (the town's Development Union), especially in terms of the provision of modern social amenities in the community
