There were three Hausa Kings that were famous. Sarki Muhammadu Korau of Katsima, Sarki Muhammadu Rumfa of Kano and Sarki Muhammadu Rabo of Zazzau all were contemporaries in the 17th century. Another trio were replicated among the Fulani in the 19th centuries, they were Emir Muhammad Dikko of Katsina, Emir Abdullahi Bayero of Kano and Emir Ja'afaru Dan Isiyaku of Zazzau.
