This book is designed to complement the study and teaching of the texts of the Qur'an and Hadith dealing with the ordinances of Islamic jurisprudence (Ayat wa Ahadith al-Ahkam), which is an Islamic law course taught in Nigerian universities and other institutions of legal studies. The book is intended to serve as a foundation for the study of the major courses of Islamic law as it covers the salient topics taught under the subjects of Islamic Criminal Law, Islamic Family Law, Islamic Constitutional Law, Islamic Law of Succession, Islamic Law of Contracts, etc. It teaches how textual authorities are used in the process of juristic arguments with a view to extracting legal issues for the application of the texts in the practical matters of jurisprudence. Furthermore, relevant biblical texts were quoted as supporting authorities indicating compatibility between the Qur'an and the Bible in certain provisions, particularly in the penal laws. This is to demonstrate the feasibility of introducing a unified criminal justice system of divine origin and local context, that can be adopted for general application in Nigeria, expected to be acceptable to both Muslims and Christians, in place of the received alien English law.
