Home and Beyond is a tale of hope, determination, patriotism and service to the country. This is the story of Ambassador Edward Namasaka Bwisa who was born and raised in Lutonyi village of Bungoma County in western Kenya. As a small boy, he was guided as he closely watched his parents and internalized their ethics. The values of humility, hard work, determination, resilience, honesty and hope were infused in him at his grandparents' feet. As he ran across the fields and forests, his desires and dreams grew. Edward Namasaka Bwisa embarked on a journey of education that took him to Uganda and eventually across the oceans to the United States of America for further studies. Bwisa curved a successful career in the civil service. He served as an economist with a brief stint as a deputy secretary. He became a Kenyan ambassador and served in various foreign countries before retiring in 2003. Bwisa would not have known anything beyond his home were it not for education and service to the country. It is this journey that thrust him from his home and beyond which he shares in this Memoir. The book demonstrates how closely one man's life is clearly intertwined with a society undergoing rapid transformation. It provides, not only notable insights into the Kenyan civil service, including diplomatic experience and the continued challenges facing the African countries, but also unveils cultural heritage of his community.
