A Descriptive Catalogue of Coins of the Bengal Sultans in the Bangladesh National Museum, Part 1 (Descriptive Catalogue Series, Volume - 5/2017). This volume of Catalogue contains the curatorial data of 435 coins from the Sultani period. It is the 1st volume of the two whose focus is on the coin issued by the Turkic Sultans who reigned Bengal between 1205 and 1538. The coins have been selected by the author from the huge cache of Bangladesh National Museum. These objects have accumulated over a long period since the day of Dacca Museum, the predecessor of Bangladesh National Museum. The Catalogue is the much-awaited publication initiated by the museum and it furnishes valuable data on the coins of Bengal Sultans since the Conquest of Turkish conqueror Bakhtiyar Khalji on behalf of the Delhi general in 1205. Seen in the context of the recent researches and findings, this Catalogue is a treasure trove for the students of numismatics and scholars interested in perusing clues to the tumultuous events of the Sultani period. Following two ground-breaking 1936 publications, Catalogue of coins Collected by Sayyid A. S. M. Taifoor of Kawser House and Catalogue of Coins collected by Maulvi Hakim Habibur Rahman Khan Akhunzada of Dacca, this recent Catalogue prepared by Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim is one of the two compendiums that compile comprehensive data on the Sultani coins. The volume indexes the specification of each coin including information on mint, date, denomination and accession number, measurement and weight as well as how and from whom it was acquired. Both obverse and reverse sides of the coin is reproduced in photographs of facilitate further inspection by the readers.
