"A Fairy Tale" is a collection of personal essays some of which were previously published in The Daily Star's Literature Review. These fifteens autobiographical stories are written from a very intimate perspective, and the inspiration came from the lives of the author's parents and family, and span more than forty years. Some of the essays were published in the column "Letters From Boston" that he wrote during 2008-2014. The first essay, "Buring Down the House" recounts an experience of a fiery incidence in Karachi. "1963" is a time capsule resurrected after a meeting with a stranger in Boston. In the longer essay, "The 1975-76" Bangladesh TV Quiz Championship", Dr. Shibli recounts in great details how the Mohsin Hall quiz team won the first television quiz competition in Bangladesh. These narratives are written in very casual English and, since most of the readers are Bengali-speaking, the metaphors, style, and the narrative address the expectations of the readers who typically read the Star Literary Review.
