Product Description

"Transformation of Credit Unions in Bangladesh to a New Paradigm" is a research-based book. This research explores the changing perceptions and understanding of credit unions and analyzes the influence of a new paradigm called, New Credit Union Development Model (NCUDM) on fundamental financial, organizational and operational transformation. The research introduces the concept of the NCUDM which came about through The World Council of Credit Unions, Inc. (WOCCU) in Latin America and accepted most business approaches in the second implementation of the NCUDM in British credit unions. The NCUDM is founded on seven core doctrines of success: (1) serving financial needs of large population; (2) ensuring maximized savings; (3) diversifying portfolios; (4) efficient operation: (5) financial discipline; (6) self-governance; and, (7) assimilation. These doctrines of success are contrasted to the operation of the traditional concept of credit unions. The present research contributes nine important attributes of the NCUDM on business management issues grouped into three clusters: (1) Business Culture: Ideology; (2) Operational Management: organization, human resources, operating environment, marketing; (3) Financial Management: member savings, member loans, financial discipline and financial structure. The research also contributes twelve components: member-relations, community building, core values, change awareness, leadership structure, leadership behavior, democratic practice, cooperative values, training/formation, financial assistance, member satisfaction and directors' competency in terms of business environment performance issues.
