What was true for trainees stepping aboard the Spirit of Adventure 50 years ago remains true for those disembarking from the Spirit of New Zealand Te Waka Herenga Tangata o Aotearoa today. They've had fun, made friends, and been given a taste of expanded possibility and self-recognition. More, they've learned that a tall ship, with its splendid traditional rigging, sails on teamwork. The emphasis on leadership, while still embedded in the Spirit of Adventure Trust's Deed, has in practice changed more to individual growth and co-operative possibilities, but the essence of the tall ship experience is the same, even when expressed as 'different every time'.
