The book has critically examined themes covering many aspects of the history of Africa. Divided into two major parts, Part I covers the African past from earliest times to the 16th century, while Part II takes the story of African development in the face of European incursion to the 19th century. The book gives adequate attention to events and influences emerging from Asia and the Muslim world, as well as those from north and south of the Sahara including major events of historical significance from Christian Europe. The impact of Islam and Christianity in the course of African development is also critically appraised.
