Since the 2000s, the discovery of several kiln sites around Angkor and the numerous research studies conducted on ceramics have significantly advanced our knowledge and made it possible to precisely define five major stoneware production groups in the Angkor region or in the provinces. The constituents of a new classification are presented in this study, they include: Kulen type stoneware, unglazed stoneware, Buriram type stoneware, Choeung Ek type stoneware and Torp Chey type stoneware. For each of these production groups, this study provides information on the technical specifications—paste, decoration and glazes—the chronology, and the repertoire of forms.
