Transcending as means of wisdom and liberation; mask dances are more than functions of conventional ritual in Buddhism. It constitutes the mandala of perfect victory and infinite glory, the gateway to fortune of today and eternal bliss of tomorrow. The expression of tshechu in Bhutan has furthermore deepened the significance of mask dances in Buddhism, while the fundamental basis of mask dances are laid by the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni, Guru Padma Sambhava and their in-numerable emanations.
