Professional ethics for legal practitioners demands that a legal practitioner should uphold and observe the rule of law, promote and foster the cause of justice, maintain high standard of professional conduct, and shall not engage in any conduct which is unbecoming of a legal practitioner. Areas covered by ethical standards include independence, honesty and integrity, the legal practitioner and client relationship and in particular, the duties owed by the legal practitioner to his client. This includes matters such as client care, conflict of interest, confidentiality, dealing with client's money and fees.
