Jana Vytrhlik’s new book Treasures of Old Jewish Sydney: The story of a visual heritage challenges this view. It introduces an important Jewish visual legacy that is represented not only in Sydney Jewish history collections, but in major state and national holdings, including the Art Gallery of NSW, National Museum of Australia, Powerhouse Museum, State Library of NSW, National Library of Australia, University of Sydney, and the National Gallery of Australia. Based on Jana’s research in the formation of a distinct visual identity of Jews of Sydney, their story can now be told through the surviving visual legacy.
