Languages are among the most profound symbols of human diversity. Article 7 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 highlights the duty of the State to promote and protect the diversity of language of the people Kenya while Article 44 of the Constitution recognises linguistics and cultural rights of every person and community. For constitutional guarantees to be more than mere rhetoric, both the State and the people of Kenya should prioritize the promotion of indigenous languages. Equally, a society comprised of multiple cultures, where most people understand the basic constitutional values binding them together, is inherently more sustainable.
