OFO : THE YORUBA INCANTATION (A Textlinguistic Exploration Analysis) is a seven-chapter book that is devoted entirely to an in-depth analysis of the distinctive features and values of the ofo genre, the Yoruba incantatory poetry. The book adopts a balanced blend of text-linguistic and stylistic canons and principles in unraveling the formal features, communicative functions as well as the mood of a sizeable ofo corpus, all within a broad semiotic ambit. The need to study the function(s) of this poetic art arose from the great importance the Yoruba attach to ofo as a means to solving their social, political, economic and health problems.
