Democratic governance and national security are central pathways and platforms for national development and the achievement of national goals. While democratic governance facilitates citizen participation and mobilisation for development, it also provides a better framework and conditions for national and human security. National security is better guaranteed and sustained when governance is focused on the citizens interests and welfare, provides space for participation and collective decision making, ensures representation, consultation, equity, justice, respect for rule of law and due processes and guarantees human rights, as democratic governments ideally do.
